The aim of our pre-school, which has been running over 40 years, is to ensure that our
children enjoy a well balanced and broad curriculum whilst they are with us. Our individual
children’s needs are paramount and our aim is to help and support them through these stages
of learning. We realise children are individuals and the rate they develop will differ from
child to child. The age and stage of development is always taken into consideration when
planning our curriculum.
We provide a friendly, safe and stimulating environment where children will be given the opportunity to make friends and learn to treat everyone with courtesy, respect and consideration. The children will learn to value themselves and others, which will build their confidence and self esteem. They will be encouraged to accept instruction and support from adults following the rules of the pre-school moving towards their own self discipline. When children start at the playgroups they will begin in our Starter Room (right) where their daily activities include free play, taking part in songs, rhyme and story time, together with physical play inside and outside, when the weather permits. |

Not long after their third birthday, our children then usually move into the Main Room group (below).
Here the children have a similar routine to the Starter group, however we also encourage
them to become involved in some more academic activities, which may require a little
more concentration. These activities cover the six areas of learning laid down in the
Foundation Stage Curriculum in readiness for their transition to school.
A Key Worker system is operated throughout the playgroups and children are allocated a particular member of staff when they join each room. We make regular observation of the children’s progress and these are transferred to a book, which is yours to keep at the end of your child’s time with us. These observations help us define a child’s particular needs and strengths and Individual Learning Plans are put in place every term. |

We at Coten End Playgroups believe strongly in learning through play and our children have
the opportunity every day to explore their creativity, the joy of books and role play
experiences together with IT skills using our child friendly learning programmes. We pride
ourselves in the number of visitors we bring into the playgroups, who include Road Safety
Officers, Police and Fire personnel together with family and friends of the children who
have a wealth of knowledge which they can pass on. We also take part in lots of trips out
visiting our wonderful local parks and museums and taking short rides on the nearby train
to Leamington Spa. We also organise a Sports Day at the end of the school year.
Coten End Playgroups have full policies for parents and carers to read and acknowledge and to sign when a child starts attending the group. The playgroups are registered with Ofsted and are an accredited member of the Pre-school Learning Alliance (PLA), a movement linking 15,000 early years settings providing support services and training courses to staff and parents alike. The PLA is committed to supporting quality education for pre-school children with highest standards of care in all areas. |
